The number of Czechs opposed to the building of a U.S. missile defense radar in their country has increased to 68 percent, according to the latest poll released by CVVM agency on Tuesday.

Around 43 percent of respondents said they "definitely disagree " with the radar construction and 25 percent "fairly disagree" with it.

In February, 61 percent Czech citizens opposed against the radar base.

The poll showed that some 77 percent of people support the idea of a referendum being held on the U.S. plan, while 18 percent are of the opposite view.

People's support for a possible referendum has increased by 4 percent since February, while the number of referendum opponents has remained without a significant change.

Washington proposed in January installing parts of its anti- missile shield in central Europe, including some interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar system in the Czech Republic.

The Czech government officially agreed last month to start negotiations with the United States over the location of the radar base. The negotiations are expected to start in mid-May and go on until the end of the year.
