Britain's senior anti-terror officer cautioned on Tuesday against possible terrorist threat to the country.

Peter Clark, head of the anti-terror squad and Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, said in a speech on Tuesday evening the threat from terrorism is "deadly, enduring and to a significant extent targeted at the UK," Sky news reported.

"We suffered the appalling attacks of July 2005, and the only sensible assumption is that we shall be attacked again," he noted, adding "We are not looking at discrete terrorist cells that can be investigated, isolated and dismantled. We are seeing networks within networks, connections within connections, and links between individuals that cross local, national and international boundaries."

According to Clark, security services in the country have cracked a number of attacks with more than 100 people awaiting trial of terror related charges.

The government has set up a new committee on security and terrorism as part of the reorganization of the Home Office.
