Commander of U.S. Central Command William Fallon said here on Tuesday that Iran should "sit down and talk" and follow the example of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Emirates News Agency reported.
During his one-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Fallon called for diplomatic and peaceful solutions to the impasse on Iran's nuclear program, the report said.
Speaking at a press conference held in Abu Dhabi, Fallon said that there are already enough conflicts in the Middle East and that he was in favor of finding solutions to the current issues through diplomacy and talks rather than through violent encounters.
The U.S. commander urged Iran to follow the example of DPRK, which promised to shut down and seal the Yongbyon facilities as a result of the six-party talks.
Iran rejected on Sunday Western calls for a suspension of its sensitive nuclear activities.
The United States accuses Iran of seeking to make nuclear weapons, while Iran insists its nuclear drive is solely for generating energy.
Iran has shown no sign of yielding in the stand-off, saying that its uranium enrichment operations have reached an industrial level and announcing it wishes to install over 50,000 uranium enriching centrifuges at a plant in Natanz.
