Four terrorists were shot dead in two separate incidents in India's central Chhattisgarh region, Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) reported Wednesday.

"Militants opened fire Tuesday night on a police team. Two militants were shot dead on the spot," R.K. Vij, inspector general of Bastar range in Chhattisgarh, was quoted by IANS as saying.

Vij said that two other terrorists, including a commander, were shot dead in the Dhanora forested region of Chhattisgarh area.

According to a report by the Asian Centre for Human Rights (ACHR), terrorist violence killed 749 people in India in 2006, with Chhattisgarh alone accounting for 48 percent of the casualties.
