Quake jolts parts of southern Japan

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 jolted several prefectures in southern Japan on Thursday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

No tsunami warning was issued as of the 9:03 a.m.(0003 GMT) quake. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The epicenter of the quake was around 40 kilometers underground in Ehime prefecture, it said, noting that Hiroshima, Okayama, Tokushima, Kagawa, Kochi and several other prefectures were also affected by the quake.
