The European Space Agency (ESA) is launching a contest for people under 18 to compile a list of songs they consider best for astronauts to listen to in the International Space Station (ISS), said an ESA statement on Wednesday.
ESA is seeking songs to make the astronauts feel good and happy during their long stays in the ISS.
The winner's work will be loaded into an iPod and sent to the ISS by the ESA's 20-ton automated ESA supply ship, Jules Verne, which will make its first flight later this year. The craft, named after a famous French science fiction writer from the 19th century, will carry six tons of supplies to the astronauts in the ISS.
Minors resident in Germany, Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland can participate in the competition, and the winner will be awarded a trip to French Guyana to watch the launch of the Jules Verne craft. The best lists from each nation will also earn a trip to the European Astronaut Center in Germany.
