The Hamas-led coalition government is interested to maintain ceasefire with Israel which must stop all military operations in Gaza Strip and West Bank, a spokesman said on Monday.
Spokesman Ghazi Hamad told Voice of Palestine radio that " Observing the calmness needs a clear Israeli commitment and an immediate halt of the operations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank because they affect the quietness."
The November ceasefire was subject to several violations by Israel and the Palestinian militant groups in recent days, threatening its chances of lasting.
The West Bank was excluded from the truce and the Israeli army daily raids in the territory have pushed Gaza militants to respond by launching makeshift rockets into southern Israel.
Hamad said the Palestinians would find themselves forced to reconsider their commitment to the ceasefire if Israel refused to apply it to the West Bank.
Neglecting Palestinian demands, the Israeli army has arrested 17 people in the West Bank overnight, most of the raids happened in Nablus, security sources said. The detainees were members of Hamas, Fatah and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
Soon after the operation, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) claimed responsibility for firing two rockets on an Israeli-run crossing point in southeast Gaza Strip.
The group said the attack against Kerem Shalom commercial terminal was in response to "the Israeli aggressions on the Palestinian people."
