The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (CPN-M) attacked a police post situated at remote Baghauda region of Banke district in mid-western Nepal Monday night, local media reported on Tuesday.

According to the himalayantimes.com website, some 500 members of the CPN-M attacked the Suiya District Police Office in Banke, some 400 km west of Kathmandu.

"The Maoists, armed with guns and household weapons, attacked the police post and set ablaze the police post," official of Banke Pramod Kharel said, adding that they also abducted SI Mukesh Kunwar, who was among eight policemen deployed at the police post.

The members of the CPN-M looted three rifles and one pistol from the police post, he said. However, the CPN-M haven't commented on the incident.
