The poll also shows that 16 percent of the voters have yet to express their intention.

Among the voters for the centralist candidate Francois Bayrou who obtained 18.6 percent of all the valid votes in the first round, 41 percent will vote for the socialist candidate, 32 percent for Sarkozy, 27 percent will abstain from voting or are still hesitating, according to the poll.

Meanwhile, 61 percent of voters for far-right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen would choose Sarkozy, 15 percent will choose Royal and 24 percent will abstain from voting or are still hesitating.

Le Pen, candidate for National Front who obtained 10.44 percent of all the valid votes in the first round, urged on Tuesday his voters to "abstain massively from" the second round presidential elections which are slated to be held on Sunday.

The poll was made with 1,362 people investigated by telephone from April 27 to April 30, constituting a national sample representing the population inscribed on the electoral lists.

The presidential runoff will be held on Sunday in France when the French voters could choose their new president of a five-year mandate.
