font size

Visiting Singaporean President Sellapan Rama Nathan Tuesday pledged to help market Victoria Falls to the outside world.

During his tour of the natural wonder in the capital city of Zambia's Southern Province, Nathan said the Victoria Falls, sitting on the border Zambia-Zimbabwe border, has the potential to attract tourists from all over the world.

He urged the Zambian government to fully exploit the potential of the Victoria Falls, the largest curtain of water in the world with a width of 1,709 meters.

''We will publicize the Victoria Falls in Singapore but that alone is not enough. There must be concerted efforts locally to try and promote it worldwide in a way that will attract investment, '' he said.

Speaking on the same occasion, Zambian Tourism Minister Kabinga Pande called on investors from Singapore to come and invest in the tourism sector.

He assured the Singaporean investors that Zambia is not only friendly but that it is also one of the most peaceful countries in southern Africa and the African continent as a whole.

He said the country wants to reach a target of 1 million tourists per annum passing through Livingstone by the year 2010.

Nathan accompanied by his wife and a delegation of 50 businessmen arrived in Livingstone Tuesday for a private visit and will leave there Wednesday.
