Iranian former nuclear negotiator arrested for alleged espionage charges

Iranian former nuclear negotiator Hossein Mousavian has been arrested for alleged espionage charges, the Iranian state-run news agency reported Wednesday.

The news agency cited an "unofficial informed source" as saying that Mousavian was arrested Monday in the capital, Tehran.

Iran has not officially released any details about the specific charges against Mousavian, a close ally of former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.

Mousavian was a member of the Iranian nuclear negotiation team until 2005. He served as Iran's ambassador to Germany in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
