Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf Thursday termed his meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Turkey extremely fruitful and hoped that both countries would move forward in their fight against those who attempt to disrupt peace and stability of the region.
Musharraf made these remarks while talking to a media delegation from Egypt comprising senior journalists, according to the official APP news agency.
He briefed the delegation about the efforts and steps taken by Pakistan in its fight against terrorism, and emphasized that a peaceful, prosperous and stable Afghanistan was in the best interest of all its neighboring countries.
Musharraf also ruled out the perception of any U.S. pressure on Pakistan. Instead, he said, Pakistan has been a front line state in the international fight against terrorism and its role has been widely acclaimed and acknowledged by the international community including the United States.
In response to a question, Musharraf said that Pakistan was against nuclear proliferation but fully supported peaceful use of nuclear technology under international safeguards.
Commenting on cooperation between Pakistan and Egypt, Musharraf said that both countries enjoyed extremely strong bilateral relations and there was complete consonance of views on international issues.
However, there was a need for further enhancing trade and economic relations between the two brotherly countries, he added.
