Rocket attack kills 1, wounds 5 in Afghan capitalA rocket attack killed one civilian and wounded five others in eastern Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, on Monday morning, the police said. "The rocket hit Pul-e-Padsha area in Kabul at around 7:30 a.m.( 0300 GMT), killing one civilian and injured five others," Kabul deputy police chief Alishah Paktiawal told Xinhua. A witness named Nerzad told Xinhua the killed was a 22-year-old young man who was building a wall at the site, and the injured were all children playing there. The rocket just struck outside a gate of a civilian house, leaving a crater on the ground and many small holes on the iron door. Nerzad said the rocket apparently was shot by militants to attack government or foreign targets, but missed its goal. This is the first rocket attack in Kabul that claims lives over the past several months. No groups or individuals have claimed responsibility. Due to rising Taliban-linked insurgency, over 1,100 persons, mostly Taliban rebels, have been killed in Afghanistan this year. Source: Xinhua |
