Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem said Monday his government supported new investment plans of Hong Kong-based Sun Wah Group, which mainly involves in information technology (IT), infrastructure, realty and eco- tourism.

"Vietnam much needs big and prestigious companies like Sun Wah. Besides information technology, Vietnam needs foreign investment in biotechnology, which is strength of Hong Kong," said Pham Gia Khiem when meeting with a Sun Wah delegation led by the group's president Jonathan Choi.

Vietnam is creating favorable conditions for the delegation to explore investment opportunities and eventually sign specific deals like developing an expressway and residential areas along it in the northern region, infrastructural and cultural works in central Hue city, hi-tech parks and modern urban areas in Hanoi capital, Khiem said.

Choi said his group wants to expand its operations in Vietnam's southern Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi and neighboring localities. The group's intended projects including developing agriculture and eco-tourism in northern Vinh Phuc province, joining hands with Vietnam's leading IT firm FPT in developing low-cost computers, and constructing an office building and a residential complex in Hanoi.

At the end of the meeting, Choi presented a version of Linux operating system developed by the group to Khiem, saying that his group wants to help the Vietnamese government popularize computer use.

Sun Wah is a diversified conglomerate with businesses in six principal areas: seafood and foodstuff, real estate, financial services, infrastructure, technology and media. Its activities span China's mainland and Macao, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Singapore, Canada, Europe, the United States and Australia.
