The plane "is totally destroyed," and "there are few chances of finding the survivors," Gounoko Awounaye, governor of Litorral province told the radio.

Local police entered the site Sunday night and the rescue measures began Monday morning.

According to a government statement issued Sunday night, the wreckage of the plane had been found around a village named Mbangabongo in the third district of Douala, capital of Litorral province.

Taking off at 00:05 Douala and due to arrive in Nairobi at 06: 15 on Saturday, the Boeing 737-800 carrying 114 people lost contact with the Douala airport a few minutes after its departure.

According to reliable sources, the plane crashed just after its departure from Douala where the storm was quite rampant.
