Poland's President Lech Kaczynski had a brief telephone conversation with French president-elect Nicolas Sarkozy, according to a presidential chancellery press release on Monday.

The two politicians stressed the traditional friendly relations between the two countries and expressed the hope for further cooperation.

Earlier in the day, Kaczynski had sent a congratulatory message to Sarkozy, Polish PAP news agency reported.

The Polish president said he was convinced that further bilateral cooperation will contribute to upholding the friendly relations for the benefit of the two countries.

Kaczynski also invited Sarkozy to pay a visit to Poland.
