Brazilian names new Tanzanian National XI

Marcio Maximo, head coach of the Tanzanian national eleven, on Tuesday announced his new line-up in the build-up for the June 2 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Senegal.

The short-list for the June 2 national side included 27 players.The final team will be reduced to 23 prior to the game to be played in Mwanza of northern Tanzania.

Marcio Maximo, from Brazil, dropped a few big shots famous with local fans and added some in-form new faces who have been improving in the ongoing mini-league which will decide the country's participants in next year's African Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Veteran goalkeeper Juma Kaseja, veteran strikers Mussa Hassan, Gaudence Mwaikimba and Athuman Iddi did not make it to the new line-up.

Gaudence Mwaikimba and Athuman Iddi played for Tanzania in all the previous Africa Cup of Nations Group Seven qualifiers so far.

The Brazilian coach called in Harune Moshi, Ali Musrapha and Soud Salim to fill in the void.

Marcio Maximo, who stresses teamwork and discipline, did not change the midfield and changed a little up front. But he reshuffled the defense line by dropping three of the former nationals.

The Brazilian coach explained while announcing the new national team line-up that discipline, talents, depth of bench and age had been the factors he took into consideration while forming the squad.

Following are the players chosen by the Brazilian coach into the new national eleven:

Goalkeepers: Ivo Mapunda, Ali Musrapha, Soud Salim

Defenders: Erasto Nyoni, Ibrahim Mwaipopo, Mecky Mexime, Shadrack Nsajigwa, Yasim Juma, Abdulahim Amour, Nadir Cannavaro, Salum Swed, Salvatory Ntebe, Victor Costa

Midfielders: Abdi Kassim, Amir Maftah, Haruna Moshi, Henry Joseph, Juma Said, Kigi Makasi, Malegesi Mwanga, Nazir Khalfani, Shaabani Nditi

Strikers: Danny Mnwanla, Jerry Tegete, Joseph Kaniki, Said Maulid, Vicent Barnabas.

Ivo Mapunda, Shadrack Nsajigwa, Mecky Mexime, Victor Costa, Henry Joseph, Abdi Kassim and Said Maulid have appeared in all the three Africa Cup of Nations Group Seven qualifiers so far.

Tanzania scored one win against one draw and one defeat in these three qualifiers with four points. It now ranks third behind Senegal and Burkina Faso but in front of Mozambique.
