Malignant tumor represents the No. 1 killer for both rural and urban residents in China, according to the news released by the Ministry of Health Monday .
The relevant death cause statistics collected from 30 cities and 78 rural counties, the first 10 death causes for urbanites were malignant tumor, cerebrovascular diseases, heart diseases, respiratory diseases, injuries and poisoning, endocrine nutritional and metabolic disturbance, diseases of digestive system, diseases of the urinary and urogenital system, diseases relating to the nervous system and mental disorders. All these deaths caused by the top ten killer diseases accounted for 90.7% of the total deaths. Compared with 2005, the death rate of the urbanites killed by malignant tumor was up 18.6 percentages points.
The top 10 death causes for rural residents were malignant tumor, cerebrovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, heart diseases, injuries and poisoning, diseases of digestive system, endocrine nutritional and metabolic disturbance, diseases of the urinary and urogenital system, diseases of nervous system and mental disorder. All deaths caused by the ten diseases accounted for 92.3%. Compared with 2005, the death rate of rural residents who killed by malignant tumor shot up 23.1 percentages points.
