Pakistan and the Czech Republic Wednesday signed four Memorandums of Understanding to promote cooperation in the fields of science, commerce, industry, health and foreign services academies.

The agreements were signed after talks between Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and his Czech counterpart Mirek Topolanek in Islamabad.

Speaking at a joint press after talks, they said that Pakistan and the Czech Republic had resolved to expand their relations and give them new impetus.

Czech prime minister Mirek Topolanek said that his country is keen to enhance cooperation with Pakistan in political, trade and economic fields besides people-to-people contact.

Answering a question, the Czech prime minister said that despite small in size his country had concerns regarding global security and was playing an active role in the peace keeping mission in Afghanistan.

He said that Afghan people along with peace should also be given hope for prosperity and progress. However, he said that reconstruction would not be possible without military presence in Afghanistan.

Topolanek appreciated Pakistan's role in the area besides its patience in the current situation.

Aziz said that both the countries had many things to share and Pakistan would like to strengthen its relations with the Czech Republic particularly in trade, investment and economy.

He described the meeting with Topolanek as constructive and hoped that the existing relations between the two countries would further expand. He said that Pakistan desired to have a free trade agreement with the European Union and hoped that the Czech Republic would fully support Pakistan in this regard.

Aziz said that both the countries stood for peace and prosperity and talked about the need to create interfaith and inter civilization harmony.
