U.S. says still seeking former FBI agent's whereabouts from Iran
font size

The United States said Wednesday that it is still seeking to identify the whereabouts of the missing American named Robert Levinson from Iran.

"We have not heard anything new back, either from the Iranian government or from those other countries that we've asked to work on Mr. Levinson's behalf to try to determine his whereabouts," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.

"We've also worked with other governments to see if they can knock on a few doors in Teheran and elsewhere and find any information about Mr. Levinson's whereabouts. We try to follow up on any leads wherever they may occur," McCormack said.

The United States has made five inquires to the Iranian government asking about Levinson's whereabouts, McCormack said.

Iran has said it did not have any record of Levinson, who was believed to go missing in Iran in March.

Washington has no diplomatic relations with Teheran since April 1980, five months after Iranian students occupied the American embassy in Teheran. Fifty-two Americans were held hostage for 444 days.

Levinson, 59, retired from the FBI in 1998.
