Sixty percent of Americans support Iraq withdrawal timetable: pollSix out of 10 Americans support setting a timetable for pulling U.S. troops out of Iraq, according to a USA Today/Gallup poll released here Wednesday. Additionally, 78 percent of those interviewed said they don't believe claims by the Bush Administration that U.S. military presence in Iraq is preventing new terrorist attacks. A majority expect terror attacks on the United States to continue regardless of whether troops are withdrawn. USA Today said the poll, taken last Friday through last Sunday, "underscore the limited traction the Bush administration's arguments have gotten as White House officials and congressional Democrats negotiate an interim bill to finance the war." Last week, U.S. President George W. Bush vetoed a war funding bill because it included a timetable to withdraw combat forces by the end of next March. The White House said Wednesday that Bush will veto a new bill drafted by Democrats that will give him half the money he has requested for the war effort, with a vote in July on whether to approve the rest.
