Retired U.S. generals slam Bush policy in ad campaign

Three retired U.S. generals will challenge the Bush administration's Iraq policy in an ad campaign starting Wednesday, Fox News reported.

The three generals are John Batiste, Paul Eaton and Wesley Clark, who will be featured in a series of political ad launched by VoteVets.org, an anti-war group, according to the report.

Batiste, who once led soldiers in Iraq, said in the first ad that President George W. Bush has misled the war and calls for troops to come home.

"Mr. President, you did not listen. You continue to pursue a failed strategy that is breaking our great Army and Marine Corps. I left the Army in protest in order to speak out. Mr. President, you have placed our nation in peril. Our only hope is that Congress will act now to protect our fighting men and women," he said.

The ad featuring Eaton is expected to air next week and generally will follow the same format as the Batiste ad.

The ad featuring Clark, a former NATO Supreme Commander, will focus on how the Iraq war hurt the "war on terror".

"The fact is, the president has never listened to the soldiers on the ground effectively," Clark is supposed to say in the ad.

VoteVets.org also caught the public's eye recently when it cosponsored an ad directed by Oliver Stone, a filmmaker critical of war.
