German ambassador to China Dr. Volker Stanzel visited PD Online Forum and answered questions by netizens on the subject of "The Role Germany played in EU and Europe-China Relations" on May 14.

Asked about the issue of "China threat", Ambassador Stanzel said the world would pay close attention to a country that emerged as a new economic and political power in a short period of time. Along with the attention, there also came both the positive and negative theories and assumptions in that circumstance. The "China threat" fell to this category and reflected the feeling some people had on new fact.

Ambassador Stanzel said he remembered there were many books on the "Japan threat", shortly after east Asian country's rise on the international arena. To that point, he maintained that people should adopt an easy attitude when handling this sensitive issue.

More and more people now are focusing on China: some hold the rise of China is worth their concern, others in favour of China. For China itself, the most important point is to hold rational, pragmatic as well as concrete dialogues with all these people, said the ambassador.
