Olympique Lyon, who claimed its sixth consecutive French Ligue 1 champion in the just-concluded season, on Tuesday showed its willingness to cooperate with Changchun Yatai, an upgoing Chinese Super League side.
In a fax sent to Changchun Yatai on Tuesday, Lyon clearly expressed its intent of long-term cooperation, and therefore a special delegate directly assigned by the club president, Jean-Michel Aulas, will hold a meeting with Liu Yuming, the president of Yatai, in Beijing on Wednesday.
Changchun Yatai has received wide acclaims since its promotion to the Chinese Super League in 2006, Liu told Xinhua in an interview.
So far, Yatai is standing third with 19 points after nine games, following runners-up Tianjin who collected 19 points from ten games and enjoyed a goal difference advantage. Current top runners Shangdong Luneng got 20 points from 10 games.
Liu said,"In addition to the sound performance, a number of young talented players and the standardizing operation of the club have drawn eyes from many world-famous clubs.
Found in 1950, Olympique Lyon is the only listed professional soccer club in France. It has made the trips to UEFA Champions League for seven consecutive seasons.
If the cooperation has come true, it is definitely a win-win situation for both sides in long-standing development, said Liu.
