China calls on Japan to stick to peaceful development path

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu on Tuesday called on Japan to continue on a path of peaceful development when responding to a question surrounding Japan's Constitution revision.

Owing to historical reasons, Asian neighbors pay great attention to Japan's domestic political developments referring its pacifist Constitution, Jiang told a regular press briefing.

She said Japanese people had chosen a correct path of peaceful development after the war, calling on Japan to continue in that direction.

With the enactment of a referendum bill on Constitution revision on Monday by the parliament, Japan made a noticeable step towards the amendment of its pacifist national charter.

Japan's current Constitution has not been revised since it came into effect in 1947.
