A NATO air strike killed eight Taliban insurgents and injured 12 others in Farah province of western Afghanistan on Thursday, provincial police chief told Xinhua.

The attack occurred in Bakwa district in the afternoon, Sayed Aqa Saqib said.

NATO forces in Afghanistan are not immediately available for comment.

Also on Thursday, a suicide bombing killed two civilians and injured the Afghan minister for information and culture and three others in the southern Kandahar province.

Due to rising Taliban-linked insurgency, over 1,400 persons, mostly Taliban militants, have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
