Morocco and Saudi Arabia on Friday signed accords to strengthen cooperation, with Saudi Arabia promising to donate 50 million U.S. dollars to Morocco's development.

Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz started his two-day visit to Morocco Thursday in the historic city of Fez, east of the capital Rabat.

This is his first visit to an Arab nation since Abdullah became king in August 2005.

Abdullah met with King Mohammed VI of Morocco and signed a package of agreements aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation on foreign affairs, tourism and development and regulating the teaching of Islam to guard against extremism, Morocco's state news agency MAP reported.

Saudi Arabia is Morocco's main supplier of oil and since 1999 its development fund has lent the North African kingdom 170 million dollars to help build schools and hospitals.
