Nepal grants licenses to 203 FM radios as of May

Nepali Ministry of Information and Communications has granted licenses to 203 FM (Frequency Modulation) radios till mid-May in 14 zones for broadcasting their programs, the National News Agency, RSS reported on Sunday.

Head of Audio-visual and Broadcasting Section of the Ministry Prabha Pandey told the RSS that license for broadcasting is granted to FM radio that registers application in the Ministry after inspection to be carried out by Frequency Management and Technology Analysis Division.

She said the ministry has planned to establish a separate unit to monitor the impact of FM radio broadcasting.

Nepal Television, Nepal Television Metro 2, Kantipur Television, Sangrila Television, Image Channel and Channel Nepal Network are the televisions that are broadcasting their programs among 16 televisions that had received licenses for broadcasting. Few television channels are in the process of broadcasting their programs.

Similarly, 487 Satellite Cable Television Networks have received licenses for operation in the country, according to the RSS.
