China's NPC, Egypt's People's Assembly set up regular exchange mechanism

China and Egypt on Monday signed in Cairo a Memorandum of Understanding to set up a regular exchange mechanism between China's National People's Congress (NPC) and Egypt's People's Assembly.

The agreement was jointly signed by Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, and Speaker of Egypt's People's Assembly Ahmed Sorour.

The two leaders also held talks on how to intensify regular exchanges so as to improve mutual understanding and political trust, expand cooperation at all levels between the two legislative bodies and strengthen strategic relations between the two nations.

Earlier in the day, Wu met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, during which Wu stressed the importance of Sino-Egyptian strategic, cooperative relations and called for sustainable development of bilateral ties.

The top Chinese legislator, who is currently on a four-day official visit to Egypt, also attended an Africa-China business conference and made a keynote speech on ways to strengthen economic cooperation between China and African nations.

Egypt is the first leg of Wu Bangguo's three-nation tour to Africa and Europe, which will also take him to Hungary and Poland.
