font size

At least seven U.S. soldiers were killed and six more wounded in Iraq on Tuesday, the U.S. military said on Wednesday.

In the worst single attack, three soldiers were killed and two were wounded when their patrol was hit by multiple improvised explosive devices, according to a statement.

An interpreter was also wounded in the attack, but the statement did not identified the nationality of the victim.

Two more soldiers were killed and three others wounded in the day in an explosion occurred near their vehicle in Baghdad, another statement said.

A sixth soldier was killed and another wounded when a roadside bomb hit their dismounted patrol in southwest of the capital, a statement said.

The seventh soldier was killed when insurgents attacked his patrol with small arms fire in western Baghdad, the military said.

In an earlier statement, the military said that two U.S. marines were killed in the day while conducting combat operations in the Sunni insurgent stronghold of Anbar province in western Iraq.

So far, at least 80 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq in May, bringing the U.S. death toll to more than 3,430 since the outbreak of U.S.-led invasion to Iraq in 2003.
