The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday called for the stability and security of Lebanon that has suffered a severe internal conflict in the past three days, Emirates News Agency reported.
The appeal was made by the UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan during a telephone conversation with Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora on Wednesday, the report said.
During their conversation, Seniora briefed Sheikh Khalifa on the latest development in Lebanon and thanked him for ordering the delivery of urgent relief supplies to the residents of the Nahr el- Bared Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, the report added.
It was reported that at least 50 soldiers and militants have died in three days of fighting between Lebanese security forces and militants from the faction Fatah al-Islam in the Nahr el-Bared camp that started from Sunday.
The conflict was believed to be Lebanon's worst internal violence since the 1975-1990 civil war.
According to UN relief officers, around 10,000 refugees are expected to flee from the Nahr el-Bared camp to the nearby Beddawi camp, another Palestinian refugee camp at south of Tripoli.
