font size

Six U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi interpreter were killed and three more injured in insurgent attacks in Iraq on Thursday, the U.S. military said on Friday.

Two soldiers and an Iraqi interpreter were killed when a roadside bomb struck their vehicle in western Baghdad, the military said in a statement.

Another soldier was wounded in the attack, it said.

A third soldier was killed and two more injured in the day in Iraq's northern province of Nineveh when an explosion occurred near their vehicle, another statement said.

Earlier, the military announced the killing of three more soldiers in insurgent attack on Thursday.

A soldier was killed and another wounded in a roadside bomb attack on their vehicle in the Salahudin province in north of Baghdad, a separate statement said.

Another soldier was killed when insurgents attacked his patrol with small arms fire in western Baghdad, the military said.

A sixth soldier died of wounds sustained from small arms fire in the volatile province of Diyala in north east of the capital, a statement said.

So far, at least 88 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq in May, bringing the U.S. death toll to about 3,440 since the outbreak of U.S.-led invasion to Iraq in 2003.
