The U.S. military announced Friday the killing of one of its soldiers and two others wounded in Iraq, bringing the death toll of U.S. soldiers on Thursday to seven and six wounded.
The soldier was killed and two more wounded on Thursday in a roadside bomb attack near their vehicle in Baghdad, a military statement said.
Friday's earlier military statements said that six soldiers and an Iraqi interpreter were killed and three more injured in insurgent attacks on Thursday.
Two soldiers and the Iraqi interpreter were killed when a roadside bomb struck their vehicle in western Baghdad, the military said in a statement.
Another soldier was wounded in the attack, it said.
A fourth soldier was killed and two more injured in the day in Iraq's northern province of Nineveh when an explosion occurred near their vehicle, another statement said.
A soldier was killed and another wounded in a roadside bomb attack on their vehicle in the Salahudin province in north of Baghdad, a separate statement said.
Another soldier was killed when insurgents attacked his patrol with small arms fire in western Baghdad, the military said.
A seventh soldier died of wounds sustained from small arms fire in the volatile province of Diyala in northeast of the capital, a statement said.
The seventh death announcement in the day brings the death toll of U.S. soldiers killed in a single day on Thursday to 10 and eight more wounded.
So far, at least 89 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq in May, bringing the U.S. death toll to about 3,440 since the outbreak of U.S.-led invasion to Iraq in 2003.
