Chinese top legislator meets Polish Senate Speaker

Visiting Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo met in Warsaw with Polish Senate Speaker Bogdan Borusewicz Thursday afternoon, pledging to expand inter-parliamentary cooperation to boost bilateral relations.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), highlighted the rapid growth of relations between the two countries. He said exchanges and cooperation in political, economic and humanistic fields had achieved much progress.

China and Poland understand and support each other on their key concerns, Wu said, urging the two sides to create more opportunities for cooperation in an effort to promote common prosperity.

At inter-parliamentary level, Wu said the friendly exchanges and cooperation between the NPC and the Polish Senate had played a vital role in fostering bilateral relations. He called on the two parliaments to strengthen dialogue on issues of common concern to push forward the friendly and cooperative partnership between China and Poland.

Borusewicz spoke positively about China's economic growth, saying it had already offered valuable chances for the two nations to step up bilateral cooperation.

The Polish Senate will push forward friendly relations with China by further utilizing its own advantages in a bid to cement cooperation in trade, investment and tourism fields, Borusewicz said.

At the invitation of the Polish parliament's lower house speaker Ludwik Dorn, Wu arrived in Warsaw noon Thursday. It is the first time a top Chinese legislator has visited Poland.

Poland is the last leg of Wu's three-nation visit, which has already taken him to Egypt and Hungary.
