A delegation from Hamas movement in Gaza is to travel to Egypt next week to hold talks with the Egyptian government over the situation in the Palestinian territories, a spokesman said on Sunday.
Salah al-Bardaweel, a spokesman for Hamas' parliamentary bloc, told reporters that the Egyptian government has invited Hamas and Fatah factions, who run the Palestinian coalition, for unilateral talks in Cairo.
According to al-Bardaweel, the two factions would hold separate talks with the Egyptians. He added the talks may expand in the future to include other Palestinian movements.
Yesterday, Fatah delegation has left Gaza Strip to meet the Egyptians.
Earlier, some news sources said that a Hamas delegation would arrive in Cairo on Sunday, a day later than a Fatah delegation. But the delegation was surely not sent out by Hamas in Gaza but was possibly sent by Hamas in other countries such as Syria, according to a source with Hamas in Gaza.
"Egypt is not going to propose an initiative but these talks come because of the Egyptian interest to stabilize the situation in Gaza Strip," said al-Bardaweel.
The talks will focus on the recent wave of violence between Hamas and Fatah which was the bloodiest since the two movements reached a power-sharing pact in Mecca in February.
They will also talk about renewing ceasefire with Israel which launched an offensive in Gaza Strip and has killed 48 people so far since Gaza militant groups resumed rocket attacks into southern Israel.
