font size

Two U.S. soldiers were killed and six others injured in two attacks in Iraq on Saturday, the U.S. military said on Sunday.

A Task Force Lightning Soldier was killed and two more injured in an explosion near their vehicle in Diyala province, the military said in a statement.

Another soldier, assigned to Multi-National Division - Baghdad was killed and four others wounded in a roadside bomb explosion in western Baghdad, the military said.

The latest deaths brings the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq on Saturday to seven after earlier military statements announced the killing of five more soldiers.

The worst attack took place in the day was when three soldiers were killed and two wounded while on patrol in Salahaddin province, north of Baghdad.

Another soldier died in a roadside bombing in south Baghdad and a Marine was killed during combat operations in Anbar province, west of the capital.

So far, at least 102 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq in May, bringing the U.S. death toll to about 3,445 since the outbreak of U.S.-led invasion to Iraq in 2003, according to media reports based on Pentagon figures.
