On May 27th, Long Tan Hydropower Station, China's second largest completed hydropower station (second in size to the Three Gorges Hydropower Station) has begun operations eight months ahead of schedule. This station, at an earlier date, already has met the qualifications to begin generating power. It is expected that advanced power generation would increase benefits by more than 3 billion Yuan.

According to Dai Bo, the General Manager of Long Tan Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., all employees are currently trying their best to complete the ready work for three machines to start production and guarantee secure operations this year. The installed power generating capacity of Long Tan Hydropower Project will reach 6.3 million kilowatts (KW). The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2009.
