font size

Six U.S. soldiers were killed and three more wounded in a bomb attack in the volatile Diyala province, the U.S. military said on Tuesday.

The attack occurred on Monday when the soldiers were conducting operations in Diyala, the military said in a statement.

Earlier, the military announced the killing of two of its soldiers when a helicopter crashed in the province.

So far, at least 111 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq in May, which make it the third deadliest month for U.S. troops in years.

More than 3,455 U.S. soldiers have been killed in the war-torn country since the outbreak of U.S.-led invasion to Iraq in 2003, according to media tally based on Pentagon figures.
