A survey conducted by international organizations reveals 10 percent of married Nepali women are suffering from uterus prolapse, local newspaper The Kathmandu Post reported on Saturday.

The survey says 200,000 women out of 600,000 women of reproductive age suffering from uterus prolapse need immediate treatment.

The survey was done by World Health Organization, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Nepal.

The survey was revealed at an interaction organized on Friday by Unified Project for Population and Reproduction in Dang, some 400 km west of Kathmandu.

The survey was conducted among 2,070 women of reproductive age across eight districts of 75 districts in Nepal.

Speaking at the program, Dr Rajni KC of UNFPA claimed although the percentage might seem small, Nepali women are facing discrimination due to the malady.

Medical experts present at the program added malnutrition, vicious circle of poverty, social evils, hard physical labor during pregnancy, lack of awareness and opportunities, among others, are the main causes of uterus prolapse among Nepali women.
