Hamas claims responsibility for mortar attack injuring 4 Israeli soldiers

The military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) claimed responsibility on Sunday for an early mortar attack at the Erez Crossing between Gaza and Israel, which injured four Israeli soldiers.

In a press statement, Ezz el-Deen al-Qassam Brigades said they have fired eight mortar shells at the Erez Crossing in the northern Gaza Strip.

The statement said the shelling was part of an initial response to the "Zionist aggression" on the Palestinians in Gaza Strip and West Bank.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson confirmed to Xinhua earlier in the day that four IDF soldiers were "lightly to moderately wounded" when Palestinian militants in Gaza fired four mortar shells at the Erez Crossing.

The attack on Erez Crossing was the first significant one in days as various Palestinian factions flocked to Cairo for talks about renewing the ceasefire with Israel and stop Palestinian infighting.
