The Cuban official newspaper Granma Monday slammed comments made by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during her brief visit to Spain, describing her comments as "arrogant and interventionist."

Rice told the Spanish broadcaster TVE Friday that the U.S. "will not allow the transfer from one dictatorship to another" in Cuba, adding that "Spain was a successful example of a transition to democracy and Cuba deserves the same."

Rice also criticized Spain for its links to Cuba during her eight-hour visit to Madrid.

In an article headlined "Condoleezza shames Spain and attacks Cuba," Granma asked if the officials had discussed "the damage and suffering experienced by the Cuban people during nearly half a century," referring to the U.S. blockade on trade with the island.

It also asked if the two had discussed what it called the "concentration camp" in Guantanamo Bay, where the United States keeps without trial individuals Washington labelled as "illegal combatants."

The article also denounced the United States for turning a blind eye to Luis Posada Carriles, now a free man in the United States, who is wanted in Venezuela and Cuba for bomb attacks on a Cuban airliner that killed 73 people in 1976.
