Egypt holds talks with Palestinian DFLP on Palestinian issueEgyptian officials and a visiting delegation of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) on Wednesday discussed means of reaching a ceasefire between the Palestinians and Israel, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported. During the talks, the Egyptian officials led by Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman probed with the DFLP delegation ways of ending factional infighting on Palestinian territories and reaching ceasefire with Israel, the MENA report quoted an official source as saying. He said that the Egyptian side briefed the DFLP on the outcome of previous talks held separately by Egyptian officials with delegations from Hamas, Jihad and Fatah groups in Cairo. The source added that preparations for an inclusive Palestinian dialogue to be held in Cairo in mid-June were also on the agenda of Egyptian-Palestinian talks on Wednesday. Since late last month, Egypt has been engaged in intensive separate contacts with five Palestinian faction groups of Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad (Holy War) and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the DFLP in Cairo. Egypt aimed to use these meetings to "close the Palestinian ranks, halt infighting and reach a ceasefire with Israel," said MENA. Source: Xinhua |
