Two chamber tombs, which are nearly 2,300 years old, were unearthed in southwestern Turkish province of Mugla, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Friday.

The tombs were founded during excavations carried out at a construction site in Mugla's Milas town, the report said, adding that the excavations at the site were suspended after the discovery of the tombs.

A team led by Erol Ozen, director of Milas Museum, initiated an archeological study on the tombs whose covers were opened.

"According to preliminary studies, the chamber tombs which were constructed as sarcophaguses, date back to nearly 2,300 years ago. Numerous perfume bottles and a cup in which ashes of the deceased used to be put, were also discovered inside the tombs," said Ozen.

More detailed information regarding the artifacts would be given after the researches were completed at the site, Ozen added.
