Sudan affirms support for stability in Iraq
font size

Sudanese President Omer Al-Bashir affirmed on Saturday the country's support for security, stability and reconstruction in Iraq.

President Al-Bashir made the remarks during a meeting with visiting Iraqi Vice President Tariq Al-Hashemi, the official SUNA news agency reported.

During the meeting, the visiting Iraqi official informed President Al-Bashir of the outcomes of his current visit in Sudan and his meetings with Sudanese officials, SUNA said.

Expressing his appreciation for Sudan's support for the Iraqi people, Al-Hashemi told reporters that Khartoum and Baghdad shared identical views on many issues, especially the situation in Iraq.

"The Sudanese side has stressed to me their willingness to reactivate joint cooperation with Iraq in the various domains," SUNA quoted Al-Hashemi as saying.

Al-Hashemi arrived Thursday on his first visit to Sudan since he was elected as the Iraqi vice president in April last year.
