Palestinian emergency government formed
font size

A new emergency government has been formed and it will be announced at the noon of Sunday, local media reported.

The Bethlehem-based news agency Maan quoted Palestinian officials as saying that Sallam Fayyad, the prime minister designated to chair the first ever Palestinian emergency government, is ready to announce his cabinet.

Fayyad has chosen 14 ministers in his mini cabinet to administrate the Palestinian territories after the Islamic Hamas movement controlled the Gaza Strip' security headquarters, according to the report.

Fayyad was asked to set up the emergency government one day after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday dismantled the unity government consisting of Hamas and Fatah, which took office on March 17.

Abbas dissolved the unity government and declared a state of emergency on the Palestinian territories after Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip following days of deadly infighting between Hamas and Fatah led by Abbas.
