On June 17th, China's Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) announced that by May 31st, the number of of China's registered ".cn" domain names had reached more than 5.3 million globally. It has become the third largest national domain name in global ranking, just following Germany's ".de" and Britain's ".uk". In China, the top 500 state-owned enterprise websites, 80 percent of enterprises in 20 main industries, and 97 percent of provincial governments are all using ".cn" domain names. In order to increase the usage of ".cn" domain names in China, the CNNIC has decided to postpone the period of "one yuan registration for '.cn' domain name" for three more months, valid until December 31st of this year.
