Breaux Greer won the men's javelin title with the best throw in the world this year on the opening day of the U.S. athletics championships in Indianaplolis on Thursday.
The two-time Olympian threw 91.29 meters in the second of his two attempts, beating his own American record of 90.71m set last month.
In the men's 100m first round, Tyson Gay was the only sprinter to break 10 seconds, clocking 9.98.
Deena Kastor, the 2005 Olympc marathon bronze medalist, took her 10th national 10,000m title in the women's race.
Kastor kicked away to finish in 31 minutes, 57.00 seconds.
The men's title went to Abdi Abdirahman. The Somali-born runner battled Dathan Ritzenhein most of the way, breaking away on the 24th lap and winning in 28:13.51.
Shani Marks won the first women's field event of the meet, keeping her national title with a personal-best triple jump of 14.08m.
