Hong Kong Customs has cracked a pirated disks transshipment case, seizing 100,000 pirated disks of music, movies, and overseas TV dramas, Hong Kong Customs said Saturday.
The pirated disks, seized from a logistics company in Kowloon Bay, are worth about 2.5 million HK dollars (about 320,512 U.S. dollars), according to the Customs.
Initial investigations showed that the disks were about to be transshipped overseas, mainly the United States, Canada and Australia, by air express cargoes.
At 11:00 a.m. local time on Friday, Customs officers raided the logistics company, leading to the seizure of the pirated disks in a warehouse.
Investigations are continuing, and no arrest has yet been made, according to the Customs.
Under the Copyright Ordinance of Hong Kong, it is an offense for a person to import, export or possess, for the purpose of or in the course of business, an infringing copy of a copyright work. The offender is liable to a maximum penalty of 50,000 HK dollars ( 6,410 U.S. dollars) per infringing copy and four years' imprisonment.
