font size

Chinese leading telecom firm Huawei Technologies has said its objective was to help ordinary people access technology to do business and improve their lives, when the company's delegation met Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe.

The company has helped Zimbabwe's TelOne launch new technology that will supply the country with an additional 30,000 telephone lines, The Herald newspaper reported on Saturday.

The team, led by Huawei Chief Executive Ren Zhengfei, held talks with Mugabe at Zimbabwe House and demonstrated how the Code Division Multiple Access technology works, according to the report.

TelOne Chairman Walter Chidhakwa, who accompanied the Chinese team, said CDMA technology would assist greatly in availing lines to people in both urban and rural areas.

Huawei is planning to jointly build a center to train technology experts with the University of Zimbabwe, according to the report.
