Suicide tanker bomb hits police base in northern Iraq, 15 killed
font size

At least 15 people were killed and more than 30 others wounded when a suicide bomber blew up a tanker bomb at the police headquarters in the town of Beiji in Salahudin province, north of Baghdad on Monday, a provincial police source said.

"A suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden oil tanker into the entrance of the police headquarters in Beiji and blew it up at about 9:30 a.m. (0530 GMT)," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The suicide bomber attacked the police headquarters immediately after a U.S. military patrol entered the main gate of the headquarters, the source said.

The attack also caused huge damages in the headquarters and the nearby buildings, he said, adding that several police and civilian cars caught fire in the attack.

A plume of black smock rose over the scene, as the powerful explosion rocked hard the Beiji town, the source added.
